Amazon is renaming its IMDB TV service, which offers viewers free access to blockbuster movies and the popular boxset on Freevee. The brand new design and name will land on Fire TV, smartphone and tablet devices from April 27, Amazon confirmed. Better yet, the move to Freevee is accompanied by a promise to dramatically increase the number of episodes and movies available on the service for free – with Amazon promising to increase the number of original producers on the service by 70% this year.
For those who do not know, Freevee (genus IMDB TV) competes face to face with other ad-supported streaming services, such as Samsung TV +, which is integrated into all Smart TV models sold by the South Korean company, and The Roku Channel, which is available on all Roku – branded streaming decoders, Smart TVs and Sky Q decoders. It started in the UK last year, with a number of performances, including Alex Ryder – based on the best-selling books by British author Anthony Horowitz, which are available exclusively in the ad-supported application.
Under the new Freevee banner, Amazon will expand the number of shows available on the service, starting with a new spinoff for its successful streaming show Boschwith Title Bosch: Legacyand a romantic comedy, Love by mistake, starring Brenda Song and Aaron O’Connell. Later this year, a new home renovation exhibition, Hollywood Houselift with Jeff Lewiswill debut on Freevee and will be followed by a new comedy by Greg Garcia (My name is Earl, raising hope) with Title Sprungand a script series called High School Clea DuVall customization (Argo, the happiest time) and is based on the New York Times memoir of best-selling Grammy-nominated artists Tegan and Sara Quin.
Apart from the originals that are not available anywhere else, Freevee strengthens its library with a number of titles that will be familiar to TV fans, such as remastered Babylon 5 series, Group A.the favorite of fans Communityand successful movies like Pulp Fiction, Life is Beautiful and Cloverfield.
Freevee offers some of the biggest custom shows and movies, but it also offers a number of linear ad-supported channels. Like Sky Cinema, these are subject to categories such as science fiction, action and horror.
“Customers are increasingly turning to the high-quality ad-supported content stream, and we’ve developed Amazon Freevee to offer them content with limited ads,” said Ashraf Alkarmi, Amazon Freevee CEO. “Our new name clearly shows who we are: An easy-to-navigate streaming service, available to users for free, whenever and wherever they choose to watch some of the best original and licensed content available.”
Just like IMDB TV, Freevee will be available as a Prime Video channel, which you can access through a web browser or within the Prime Video app – versions of this app are available on almost any streaming device, including Fire TV, Roku, Google Chromecast, Apple TV, the latest generation of game consoles and most Smart TV brands.
Since Freevee is free to tune in, there is no need for a subscription. However, you will need a free Amazon account to start tracking.
