Austin Butler shares an important feature with mid-century bastions: Deets inside

Austin Butler has stuck to portraying mid-century men in most of his recent films.

Talking to you Entertainment WeeklyButler said, “For whatever reason, I ended up playing in that space for a while.”

Last year, the actor played his role Elvis and now portrays pilot character Major Gale 'Buck' Clevens in the Apple TV+ WWII drama Masters of the Air.

Not only that, Butler will also play the role in the upcoming The Bikeriders.

“There is something that resonates with me. A lot of my favorite movies are set in that period,” the 32-year-old remarked.

Butler explained: “The actors that I look up to a lot, that influenced me from a young age – like Paul Newman, Steve McQueen, Montgomery Clift and Marlon Brando – are from that era. This whole period of time has affected me a lot.”

Reflecting on an important quality he shares with mid-century men, Butler noted, “I tend to be still a lot of the time in my life, and I'm very sensitive to what's going on around me.”

“I also have moments where, if I'm around the right people, I can be very outgoing and have a lot of energy. There are times when I can be very upset about something,” he said Dune actor.

Butler stated, “But with still characters, what I've always loved about other people's performances is when you can channel that in a way that doesn't seem so physical sometimes.”

“It comes out through your eyes and then you find the moments where you let it burst and tear,” added the actor.
