Hrithik Roshan, Deepika Padukone's Fighter Movie Review

With brilliant VFX and committed star cast and not just Hrithik Roshan and Deepika Padukone, all the actors gave their best performance. A complete value for money, Fighter is perfect for the big screen. Helmed by Siddharth Anand, the film really pays tribute to the security contribution of the Indian Air Force, but to some extent there has been an over glorification of nationalism.

Based on the Pulwama incident when a convoy was blown up, turning it into a masala entertainer must have been the duty of its makers Fighter. Keeping Siddharth Anand's filmography in mind, he has delivered what he does best. But at one point I felt that this could have been done with a little more sensitivity.

Still from Fighter

Soldiers are soldiers after all, whether they are Indian or Pakistani, both sides of the character could have been seen as Pakistani soldiers. And this could have been handled more sensitively. By adding the scenes of high-flying, glamorous lives of armed forces officers and their families far from reality, Siddharth Anand could have focused more on the bond between students which is close to reality. More importantly, there was no need for chest-pounding patriotism.

The air drills and action scenes shown Fighter they were brilliant, but unnecessary melodramatic dialogues were not required. The admirable part of the film was its look. The best part is that the film gave equal importance to all the characters and not just Hrithik Roshan and Deepika Padukone. All of them were heroes in their own way, including the very dark Azhar Akhtar with poker straight hair and a bloodshot right eye. Anil Kapoor as the commander looked brilliant. Everything was perfect and “officer-like” in terms of how the actors behaved.

The movie touched on another brilliant thing and that was the importance of lady officers in the armed forces. Deepika Padukone as helicopter pilot Minnal Rathore aka Minni is as good at her job as any man. We have to admit that Karan Singh Grover as Sartaj 'Taj' Gill gave his best performance in Fighter. We hope to see more of him on the big screen.
