Bob Odenkirk explains how his new action film is unlike any other

by Stewart Cole

Bob Odenkirk says that Normal will have more of an “M. Night Shyamalan – suspense and mystery genre” compared to 2021 You do.

On February 8, Deadline broke the news that Ben Wheatley of Meg 2: The Trench will direct Odenkirk in a new action film called Normal. The film is written by Derek Kolstad, who also wrote Nobody and some of the John Wick movies.

Talking to me The Hollywood ReporterOdenkirk discussed how Normal will be a completely different film compared to Nobody.

“Obviously we don't want to give anything away,” he said. “But the first thing I said [to Kolstad] was, this has an M. Night Shyamalan-type level of suspense and mystery. There's an ongoing sequence to figure out what's really going on, including some major red herrings.”

Odenkirk also said, “When they pitched the idea [for Normal] to me, it had that quality [that] I don't think I've seen an action movie in forever. I'll call it a suspenseful mystery. You could argue that the Bourne films, especially the early ones, have that element, where he's trying to explore and solve a mystery, the mystery of his own past. There's such a dimension to that story that Derek expanded on, which I think is why Ben Wheatley was involved.”

What is Normal?

The Normal synopsis reads: “Normal follows Ulysses (Odenkirk), who takes on the temporary role of sheriff for the small sleepy town of Normal following the untimely death of the previous one,” reads the official synopsis. “When the town's bank is robbed by an out-of-town couple, Odysseus arrives on the scene to discover that the town hides far more sinister deep secrets beneath its surface, and everyone—from the bartender to the priest—is in on it. get him. And now Odysseus, who until now has only focused on escaping the demons of his past, must uncover the full extent of this criminal conspiracy.”

Normal doesn't have a release date yet. No one, meanwhile, is currently streaming on Amazon Freevee.
