Cannes Directors’ Fortnight Reveals Choice 2022. – The Hollywood Reporter

The Directors’ Section of the Cannes Fortnight has revealed the full composition for its 54th edition, which will last May 18-27.

This year’s selection is the third and final Fortnight of Directors under the auspices of Artistic Director Paolo Moretti.

Among the highlights of 2022 is Enys Men by British director Mark Jenkin, the sequel to his critically acclaimed debut Bait; A good daythe latest drama by acclaimed French director Mia Hansen-Løve (Futures, Bergman Island), Paris Memories by Alice Winocour (Proxima), and Men by Alex Garland (Ex Machina), which will receive a special screening this year at Directors’ Fortnight.

The American director Kelly Reichardt, whose new film Appear will premiere in a competition in an official selection at the central Cannes Film Festival, will be honored by Directors Fortnight with his honorable achievement of a lifetime. Reichardt will also be giving a master class at the event this year.

The Directors’ Fortnight 2022 series will also be screened Pamphyr, kind of mash-up from Ukraine, the director Dmytro Sukholytkyy-Sobchuck. The super 8 yearsa feature written from Super 8 footage shot by Annie Ernaux and her son David Ernaux-Briot. Continental Drift (South)a political comedy by Swiss director Lionel Baier. A male by the first Colombian director Fabian Hernandez. Askal a metaphysical Middle Eastern police film by director Youssef Chebbi. and Creators of God by Anna Rose Holmer and Saela Davis, an Irish drama starring Emma Watson and Paul Mescal.

The Directors ‘Fortnight was founded by the French Directors Guild in 1969 in response to workers’ protests in 1968 that led to Cannes canceling the main festival in an act of solidarity with the striking workers. The non-competitive section, which is open to the general public, prides itself on celebrating provocative and groundbreaking directors. Directors who have started or been supported by Directors’ Fortnight all these years include George Lucas, Rainer Werner Fassbinder, Martin Scorsese, Sofia Coppola, Céline Sciamma, Chloé Zhao and Robert Eggers.

Reda French-language drama of the era by the Italian director Pietro Marcello (Martin Eden), will be the opening film of the night for the 54th edition of Directors’ Fortnight. The sidebar of the 2022 film festival will start on May 18. The Green Aroma by Nicolas Pariser, a thriller described as a mix between “Tin Tin and Hitchcock”, will close the sidebar on May 27th.
