Martin Scorsese was left “deeply disturbed” after watching the latest film from independent film house A24.
The legendary director has written a rave review for Ti West’s new horror film, Pearlstarring Mia Goth and sent it to A24, which was then published by /Film.
Goth plays the title role of a young woman who lives with her crippled and paralyzed father and domineering mother on their farm in Texas. It is a prequel to West’s previous film A24 Xwhich was released earlier this year.
In his review, Scorsese exclaimed, “Ti West’s films have a kind of energy that is so rare these days, fueled by a pure, undiluted love of cinema. You feel it in every frame.”
He continued: “Pearl it makes for a wild, mesmerizing, deeply – and I mean deeply – disturbing 102 minutes. West and his muse and creative partner Mia Goth really know how to play with their audience…before they plunge the knife into our chests and start twisting.
“I was excited, then annoyed, then so agitated I had trouble sleeping. But I couldn’t stop watching.”
Scorsese isn’t the only fan of West’s work. X is currently the highest-rated horror film of the year, with a 94% on Rotten Tomatoes while Pearl not far behind at 87%.
Pearl is now in cinemas in the US, with a UK release date yet to be set.
