It seems that director Pa Ranjith, who had chosen to continue the critically acclaimed boxing drama Sarpatta Parambarai with the romantic film Natchathiram Nagargirathu, has already completed his next film. The Kaala director will write and direct a film entitled Vettuvam. The poster of the first look of the film is going to be presented at the famous Cannes Film Festival, informed the director’s responsible journalist.

According to a Hollywood report, Vettuvam is said to be the story of a Robin Hood-like figure who surrenders to police and goes to jail. What happens when he gets there forms the plot. Like his previous films, this film will talk about the problems faced by those in the lower communities.

Ranjith, who also plans to make a biographical film about Birsa Munda in Bollywood, will make this film in Tamil. Filming is expected to begin in August.

Interestingly, the director also plans to create a TV series as a spinoff of the film. Like the movie, the show would also take place mostly in a prison. The cast and crew that will work on this film will be revealed soon.

Ranjith, who is currently working on the final touches on Natchathiram Nagargirathu, starring Kalidas Jayaram and Dushara Vijayan from the famous Sarpatta Paramabarai in the lead roles, will also co-produce the film. His production company, Neelam Productions, has a strong list of films to be released in the coming months, which includes Sethumaan, J Baby and Bommai Nayagi.
