The HBO series “The Last of Us” will be filmed in a mountain town in Alberta this month

HBO upcoming series The last of us has been spotted filming at various locations around Alberta in recent months, and now the production will turn a picturesque mountain town into a post-apocalyptic desert for the show.

Until October, the show appeared to be filming in Calgary’s Beltline neighborhood and in and around 4th Avenue and Memorial Drive near downtown YYC. Production was also observed in Edmonton, in places such as the legislature.

Filming will then take place in Canmore, Alberta, for several weeks during November.

According to The Town of Canmore website, residents can expect to see “aesthetic changes and road closures” around downtown that “will temporarily transform Canmore downtown areas into Jackson, Wyoming.”

The series follows Joel, a smuggler who has taken on the role of accompanying teenage Eli to the post-apocalyptic United States. What starts as a small business becomes a difficult journey as the couple travels to the US and must depend on each other for survival.

According ACTRA Alberta, the shooting of the project started in July 2021 and will be completed in June 2022. The show is expected to be released on HBO and HBOMax sometime in 2022. Canadian viewers can subscribe to the HBO package via Crave.

The city website states that preparations for the production will take place from November 1st to November 16th, with the 600 to 800 blocks of Main Street closed to vehicles from November 15th to November 20th and reopening on November 21st. .

The shooting is scheduled to take place on block 800 of Main Street from November 16 to 19, in block 800 of 14th Street on November 19, in the parking lot of Miner’s Hall on November 16 and at the Engine Bridge on November 15. Residents will see lots of new faces, production vehicles, and maybe even a few horses around downtown Canmore during this time.
