Melbourne Indian Film Festival to celebrate Ranveer Singh starrer 83. Kapil Dev to be guest of honor: Bollywood News

The Melbourne Indian Film Festival, which for the past two years has been held virtually, will make its physical comeback with programs spanning both in-person and online to keep up with the current era. The festival will take place in Melbourne from August 12 to 20. Before the world was hit by a pandemic, in 2019 the festival was hosted by Shah Rukh Khan, Arjun Kapoor, Tabu, Vijay Sethupathi, Rima Das and Zoya Akhtar and Karan Johar among others.

This year the festival will kick off with its opening night on August 12th and will have its annual awards gala on August 14th. The film programming is more diverse than ever with more than 100 films in 23 languages ​​selected for the festival. The festival schedule will be announced soon by the organizers and a number of Indian film artists will fly all the way to Melbourne to celebrate cinema in all its diversity.

Boosting the popularity of one of the most talked about films of last year, 83 directed by Kabir Khan, the festival invited legendary cricketer, Kapil Dev to be the guest of honour. Speaking about participating in IFFM 2022, Kapil Dev said, “I am looking forward to being a part of IFFM 2022. It is a great platform that celebrates the best in Indian cinema. I truly believe that sports and cinema are two important cultural experiences not only for Indians but for various communities and countries that unite us. It’s been something that’s been bringing people together for decades now. It’s a deep-rooted emotional connection and love that we have for both film and sports, and when they come together it’s a rewarding experience for everyone.”

Speaking about the festival and its physical return, festival director Mitu Bhowmick Lange said: “We are absolutely delighted that IFFM is returning physically this year alongside its exciting virtual programming. To have a legendary cricketer, Mr. Kapil Dev with us in honor of a film based on his iconic World Cup win in 83, we are thrilled to have him in Melbourne. Being a city of film and cricket lovers, we are sure that the audience will be excited to see him here. This year’s festival has over 100 films from across the Indian subcontinent and we are excited to celebrate Indian cinema in all its glory and diversity.”
