But despite Maddie’s many accolades and accomplishments, she still doesn’t consider herself famous. In an interview with Cosmopolitan, the dancer revealed that she considers herself “known”. It seems like a bit of a coping mechanism to deal with the amount of attention Maddie gets.

“I still have a hard time thinking of myself as famous,” Maddie explained. “I know fame is a very broad spectrum, but still famous. I see people like Rihanna. I always say that I am a “known person”. I’m afraid of what people think of me, and that’s got to do with being famous, although I know that’s not necessarily the case. Saying “well known” or “in the public eye” is easier because it feels less threatening to me.

Ziegler remembers being recognized for the first time when he was eight years old.

“I was eight and we were at the glacier, and me and the girlsof dance mom, and people were calling us,” Maddie recalled. “We were like, ‘How do they know our names?’ Then I gradually noticed crowds everywhere we went, at any dance competition. It didn’t excite me. In a way, I was embarrassed,” he said.

It’s understandable that Maddie is worried about the attention she’s received, especially at such a young age. Thankfully, in the 11 years since, she’s learned to better navigate her own fame.
