Simon Pegg says Ice Age’s new film shows “a different side” to Buck

by Stewart Cole

A new Ice Age movie is coming to Disney Plus this weekend – starring Simon Pegg, Buckminster “Buck” Wild, this time taking on the title role.

The Ice Age Adventures of Buck Wild sees the honorary one-eyed weasel act as the guardian of the fearless couple possum Crash and Eddie, as they are confronted by an evil triceratops named Orson.

And speaking exclusively to RadioTimes.com, Pegg said the film will let audiences see a rather different side of the character – who has grown a bit between this film and the previous franchise.

“Buck has to take responsibility for a parent, really,” he explained. “She was never in the herd. He was always like a fun uncle – Uncle Buck, if you will – and now he looks more like Dad because Kras and Eddie are eternal children.

“So playing that dynamic was fun because it was a different side of Buck’s character.”

One of the other big changes for Buck is that he has a new girlfriend – who goes by the name Z – and Peg believes that this also contributed to a new, more adult version of the character.

“Zi is a great character because she really fits in with Buck,” he said. “She’s a kind of woman like Buck. She’s just as versatile, just as brave – whatever attracts Buck, I think.

“I mean, she’s not really a girlfriend and boyfriend, but there’s definitely a relationship there. But something went wrong with that momentum at the time, and it probably’s because Buck feels he should be alone, he feels he should. do not rely on other people.

“And Zee is saying, ‘Look, you know, it’s okay to do that.’ And I think that’s one of the messages of the movie. I think it makes sense that Buck is a male character, I think men often find it difficult to ask for help.

“And I think one of the messages of the film is that not only is it okay to ask for help, but it’s okay to ask for help from your friends and family.

“This and the whole idea of what it’s like to leave home and how you feel when you leave home and how the people who were left behind feel when you left home. These are all key messages in this film, which I think talk about The dynamics of the family has always been defined in the Ice Age “.
