On Tuesday, the nominations for the 95th Academy Awards were announced by actors Allison Williams and Riz Ahmed. It was a moment of celebration for India as Everything that breathes and The Elephant Whisperers earned nominations in the Best Feature Documentary and Best Documentary Short categories, respectively, while SS Rajamouli RRR earned one nomination in the Best Original Song category for ‘Naatu Naatu‘. Meanwhile, a section of moviegoers were heartbroken as Chhello show (The Last Film Show) was snubbed in the 2023 Oscar nominations. A day after the announcement, director Nalin Pan broke his silence.
The Chhello Show fails to get an Oscar nomination. Nalin Pan says: ‘It won’t be our last film or our last show’
On Wednesday, Nalin took to Twitter and shared a note for the fans as well as his team. His note read: “Hello my last movie family, let’s be happy and move on. (Besides, we’re in the company of Park Chan-wook and Inarritu!) And as a team you were amazing. You stood in our story through the storms, with all your heart—and no hype. That you continue to deeply touch souls around the world. Because when we did the Last Film Show we all knew it wouldn’t be our last film or our last show.”
Meanwhile, in the caption, the Gujarati director congratulated all the three Indian entries for making it to the nominations.

Apart from The Last Film Show, a bunch of Indian films, which were eligible for Oscar nominations, did not advance. The list of 301 films included Alia Bhatt-starrer Gangubai KathiawadiRishab Shetty’s Kannada Kantara and pan Nalin’s film Chhello show (Films Last Viewed). Marathi Movies I Vasandrao and Tujhya Sathi Kahi Hi, R Madhavan’s Rocketry: The Nambi Effect, Iravin Nizhal and Kannada film Vikrant Rona.
Returning to the 2023 Oscars, it will be held at the Dolby Theater in Los Angeles on March 12, 2023.
