Tyler Perry is a very talented actor and director who started his career doing stage productions to bring the character of Madea to life on screen. Unfortunately, his latest films have not satisfied the critics. It’s because of this streak of bad luck that big names have turned down roles in Tyler Perry’s latest film, and here’s what the Madea star has to say about it.
Reputation means everything when it comes to being a Hollywood director. Tyler Perry talked about it all on podcast PEOPLE Every Day about how up-and-coming young actors who were gaining media attention were rejecting his new movie on Netflix; A Jazzman’s Blues.
The 52-year-old director went on to say on the podcast that actors and actresses have groups that choose to ignore Tyler Perry and push their young talent away from him. After all, the latest Netflix movie Perry starred in, A fall from grace, received mediocre reviews as well as a number of tape error errors which the audience could not ignore. Although it is understandable from a business point of view, it is still a shame for them Gone Girl actor to be rejected by those trying to make a name for themselves.
Fortunately, Tyler Perry isn’t letting these denials get him down as he’s shared how proud he is of the cast in his latest film. He felt that fresh faces Joshua Boone and Solea Pfeiffer helped make his film exactly what it was and how important it was to open doors to new talent. Even if A fall from grace didn’t get the best reception, but still helped open doors for The haves and the have nots actress Crystal Fox who was expecting such a break in the last 40 years compared to usually playing supporting roles. It’s nice to know that one of Tyler Perry’s actresses doesn’t regret working with him.
Tyler Perry originally started out as an outsider in Hollywood no experience with business and had to teach himself everything going on. In 1995 when he was in the middle of writing A Jazzman’s Blues, he was hungry, sleeping on his cousin’s couch and ended up living a homeless life trying to get his first game out there. Now Netflix has given this great director/actor a chance to show everyone the first movie he ever wrote.
This film is a departure from Perry’s previous films as this is a 1940s piece about the forbidden love between a black jazz singer and a Holocaust survivor. He originally envisioned himself playing the lead role with well-known actors such as Will Smith, Halle Berry, Sir Ben Kingsley, Diana Ross, Cicely Tyson and others as part of the ensemble. But as time passed, they all grew old. But after 26 yearsthis longtime producer’s dream is coming true A Jazzman’s Blues coming soon to Netflix.
Tyler Perry ended his podcast by saying that he can’t wait for the young talent who rejected his film to finally see it for themselves. We all they will have the same opportunity as them to see it A Jazzman’s Blues it hits you Netflix subscription on September 23.
